Vailant water heaters gained popularity among users due to German build quality. The equipment is easy to operate, equipped with a security system, but with all the reliability it is not safe from breakdowns. The duration of work is affected by external and internal factors. We will tell you how to repair your Vaillant geysers with your own hands.
Faults and solutions
Stability is affected by:
- Frequency of maintenance.
- Location - in wet and dusty rooms dust quickly settles on the parts.
- The quality of tap water.
- Heating temperature and compliance with the rules for using the device.
Column does not heat water well
The main problem is the poor pressure of hot water. Why does the device work poorly? Consider the possible reasons.
Water knot. Its main part is a rubber membrane. When stretched, it pushes the stem, which opens the gas valve. Then the burner lights up. For what reasons does the membrane fail:
- Stretching, wear.
- Deformation.
- Damage: crack, tear.
To check a part, you need to get to it:
- To remove the cover, remove the adjustment lever behind which the screw is located.
- Unscrew the screw with a screwdriver.
- Pull the cover towards you and remove.
- The water block is connected to the gas, you will see it right in the center.
- Take a wrench and a Phillips screwdriver.
- Remove the heat exchanger nut.
- Remove the two bolts that secure the water assembly to the gas one.
- Disconnect the wiring.
- After dismantling, it remains to disassemble the unit.
- Using a wrench, unscrew the six bolts of the assembly cover.
- Pull out the fitting.
- Now you can see the membrane.
Rate her condition. If it is working, it is enough to rinse the part from contamination. Otherwise, replace the membrane with a silicone one, which is more resistant to constant tension.
Another reason why the column produces low pressure is the strainer. It is located at the entrance of the water unit. Remove and rinse it under running water. If the part is very dirty, you can leave it to soak in a solution of citric acid.
Heat exchanger clogging. The radiator coil is a tube where water circulates and heats up. Why clogged tubes:
- The main reason is scale. The abundance of salts in water requires the installation of a purification filter to soften.
- Dust and soot.
- Fever. For the column "Vaylant" the recommended temperature is 40-50 degrees. Heating over 55 degrees promotes the deposition of salts on the walls of the heat exchanger.
The thicker the scale layer, the lower the pressure force. Therefore, once a year you need to clean the equipment. It is recommended to use a solution of citric acid 200 g per 800 ml of water. Reagent cleaning methods can be several:
- Reagent is poured into a special pump or watering can. The heat exchanger is dismantled and installed above the bathtub or other container. Prepared liquid is poured or pumped into the coil. Runs several times. Then the structure is washed with clean water.
- Place the radiator in a deep metal container with water. Inside, pour the solution through the watering can. Install on a stove and warm for at least 30 minutes.
The boiler does not turn on and goes out
How to turn on the equipment if it does not light? Find out the cause of the problem. If it is not possible to light the burner, the protection mechanisms are activated.
No draft in the chimney or ventilation duct. This happens when clogged with soot and soot, if foreign objects or debris get in. Checking traction is simple:
- If there is a control window on the case, bring a lit match to it. If the flame deviates to the side, there is traction.
- To check the quality of ventilation, hold a piece of paper near the window. The sheet pressed against the window - there is craving; it fell - no.
Do not operate the column in the absence of traction. This is fraught with carbon monoxide in the room.
You can clean the chimney from the side of the apartment yourself, in other cases it is better to contact the utilities.
The battery has run out. Some models have an electronic type of ignition - you can learn more about the construction of a gas column from previous articles. When the mixer is opened, the batteries are activated and current is sent to the module. The latter gives the command to light a spark for the burner. If the batteries do not work, ignition does not occur. Batteries need to be changed at least once every six months.
Small head of cold water. This happens when mixing streams. When you open the cold water faucet more strongly, the hot water pressure drops - there is no hot water, the column goes out. It will be correct to set a comfortable temperature on the regulator so as not to mix the flows. Otherwise, limescale builds up quickly.
Membrane stretch. Violation of its operation leads to the fact that the gas supply valve does not open or the ignition happens once. Replace the membrane.
Mixer mesh blockage. For this reason, the flow strength can be reduced. Disassemble the mixer, clean the mesh.
Gas valve shut off. Before turning on the column, turn the valve all the way.
Turns on with cotton
What triggers the problem:
- Insufficient draft in the chimney.
- Out of service ignition moderator. Then the flame flares up with great force.
- Ignition wick deviation. Return it to its original position.
In water heaters with electronic ignition, there may be such problems:
- The batteries are low.
- The micro switch is broken.
- The spark candle displaced.
The burner does not go out
If the column does not go out after turning off the water, then:
- A membrane is stuck in the water block.
- Stem jammed, need lubrication.
- Gas valve defective: need to be diagnosed and replaced.
If you smell gas during startup, immediately turn off the fuel, ventilate the room and call the gas service.
We noticed that the flame in the burner is not blue, but orange. It's time to clean the holes from dust and dirt.
The radiators of the device are also prone to burnouts and leaks: if you notice them, you need repair. Detailed information in the article "How to solder a gas column."
It is not difficult to determine the cause of the malfunction of Vaillant boilers yourself. For repairs, you can contact the after-sales service if you can’t fix the problem yourself. The video talks about equipment malfunctions when turned on:
